About LL
Biography
L.L. (which stands for “Little Lance” as he is Lance Bruun, Jr.) was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on April 5, 1983. He graduated from W.B. Ray High School in 2002. He attended college at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas, graduating with a BA in 2007 with a major in Communication Studies and minor of Business.
After graduating from TCU, L.L. became an Independent Petroleum Landman acquiring mineral leases in the Barnett Shale as an agent for a brokerage firm contracting primarily for local Fort Worth based XTO Energy.
In 2012, L.L. moved back home to Rockport, TX shifting his focus in the Oil and Gas Industry to the upstream sector as a Facility Construction Supervisor/Well-Site Consultant primarily in the Eagle Ford Shale region of South Texas. He traveled all over South Texas and beyond building and maintaining production facilities for various operators; however, L.L. usually spent the majority of his time off on his home waters surrounding Rockport and/or the Upper Laguna Madre south of Corpus Christi.
In the spring of 2020, L.L. decided it was finally time to chase after his life-long dream of becoming a USCG licensed fishing guide. After several months of patiently being on the wait list, L.L. was finally able to attend the Sea Academy program in October of 2020 and officially became Capt. Bruun in November 2020.
L.L. developed his love and passion for the water at a very early age, some may say from day one. His father, Lance Sr., regularly took him and his two older brothers, Bech and Dane, on their 21’ Majek which they used to fish the surf of Cedar Bayou each and every weekend in the summertime. If not fishing with his father, he and his brother and best childhood friends would ride their bikes down to the nearby bayfront in Corpus Christi, TX, to fish every chance they could from the sea wall at Swanter Park. L.L. also developed the ever so familiar obsession of coastal duck hunting at a very early age. He even went as far as to do his 8thgrade thesis with Duck Hunting as his topic of research, in the end receiving the highest grade in his class. His third coastal inspired passion came in his early teen’s when he picked up his first saltwater fly rod. It didn’t take long for L.L. to become, for lack of a better term, “hooked” on the sport and would regularly be found on the flats, either by kayak or on foot, chasing schools of tailing reds with his 8wt fly rod in hand.
To put it all in simpler terms, L.L. was born with saltwater running through his veins. In fact, it has always been extremely difficult for anyone (or any job for that matter) to keep L.L. away from his home coastal waters surrounding Rockport, TX for long periods of time.
L.L. is now a father to his 5-year-old son, Waylon Augustus. He began to join his father onboard at the early age of just 18 months. From day one, it has been obvious even to the naked eye that the son also shares the love and passion for the water and great outdoors just like his father L.L.. In fact, it will not be surprising to find he will likely be out fishing his old man long before his teens.
