THE BRAND

Origin of Rocking K Brand:

Occasionally I get asked, “what does that K thing stand for?”

The short answer to that question is, “it’s our family brand, the Rocking K”.  At least I still like to think it is.  Even though no one in my immediate family owns a ranch and obviously no cattle or livestock to even carry a brand. However….

My paternal grandfather was Knud Bruun who was born in Denmark in 1903. He immigrated to the United States in the 1920’s, settling in Houston, and later became a US Citizen. He was known to his  family and friends simply by his initial “K”. In addition to being an entrepreneur and industrialist, he was a cattleman owning ranches in Brazos and Grimes Counties, Texas. The Rocking K brand thus reflects his identity as K. Bruun.  I have his original branding iron (pictured above).

Throughout most of my life I have often tried to keep the family brand alive, even going as far as establishing Rocking K Services, LLC as my business entity for working in the oilfield as an independent contractor.  When it came time to pursue my dream career as a fishing guide, it was an easy decision to also incorporate the Rocking K brand into my guiding business and logo.
